Low Tide is an anti-theft alarm for Android. It watches for movement while your phone is unattended and sounds an alarm if it is picked up.
This policy explains what the app does with information, and what the advertising it displays does with information. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Who is responsible
| Developer | Ethan Silvestro |
|---|---|
| Address | Istrska cesta 25 6000 Koper Slovenia |
| lowtide.app@hotmail.com |
For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the developer named above is the data controller for the limited processing described below.
What stays on your phone
The following never leaves your device. It is not transmitted, backed up to us, or shared with anyone.
- Your settings — arm delay, movement duration, sensitivity and auto-disarm time. Stored in the app's private storage.
- Your disarm PIN — stored in the Android Keystore, the operating system's hardware-backed secure storage. It is never sent anywhere and we have no way of reading it.
- Accelerometer readings — used moment to moment to detect movement, and never recorded or stored.
Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
What the app does not do
- No account, sign-in, or profile.
- No location tracking. The app never requests location access.
- No microphone or camera access.
- No contacts, photos, files, or messages.
- No analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking.
- No selling of data. There is nothing to sell.
Advertising
Low Tide displays a banner advertisement through Google AdMob. This is the only third party involved in the app, and the only way information leaves your device.
To serve advertisements, Google may collect and process:
- Your device's advertising identifier — a resettable ID Android provides for this purpose
- Device information such as model, operating system version and language
- Your IP address, from which an approximate region may be inferred
- Interactions with the advertisement, such as views and taps
This processing is carried out by Google, not by us. We never see it, and we receive only aggregate reporting such as how many advertisements were shown.
Your choice
The first time you open Low Tide you are asked whether you consent to personalised advertising. This is handled by Google's User Messaging Platform.
- If you consent, advertisements may be tailored using the information above.
- If you decline, you will still see advertisements, but non-personalised ones, selected using only general context rather than a profile.
You can change your mind at any time from Settings → Privacy & ads inside the app. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID entirely in Android's own settings, under Settings → Google → Ads.
The legal basis for personalised advertising is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). Non-personalised advertising relies on legitimate interest in funding a free application (Article 6(1)(f)).
Google's own handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy, and the list of advertising partners is published at Google's Ad Technology Providers page.
Permissions the app requests
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet | To load advertisements. Nothing else is sent or received. |
| Vibrate | So the alarm can vibrate as well as sound. |
| Modify audio settings | So the alarm can hold the volume at maximum while it is sounding, and restore your original volume afterwards. |
The app does not request microphone, camera, location, storage or contacts permissions. If Android ever shows you otherwise, please tell us — that would be a mistake on our part.
Children
Low Tide is not directed at children and is rated for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is generally nothing for us to give you access to, correct, or delete. Everything the app stores is on your own device and under your control.
In relation to advertising data held by Google, you may exercise your rights directly with Google, and you may withdraw consent at any time using the in-app setting described above.
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Slovenia this is the Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec).
Data retention and transfers
We retain no personal data, so there is no retention period on our side. Data processed by Google for advertising is retained according to Google's own policies and may be processed outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards described in Google's privacy documentation.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
